A Little Goes a Long Way

I am not an expert in make-up or beauty at all.  Can't you tell by my daily make-up arsenal shown above? haha.  It probably makes those with more beauty expertise cringe.  But, this is what I can afford and am comfortable with.

I'm sharing this for all the mothers out there with little time and energy.  I received such a nice compliment the other week from a complete stranger.  I took my two kids with me to Trader Joe's and randomly started talking to another mother with a little baby girl of her own.  We both commented on how cute each other's kids were and then she asked me how it was that I looked so put together with two little children because she had such a hard time with just one.  I was wearing a simple shirt with some jeans, but I think the key was I looked awake!  I can't look awake without hiding the dark circles under my eyes, so moms and tired women out there, even if you don't have much time  in the morning, a little bit of make up goes a long way in my opinion.

I'm not saying that you have to put make-up on to feel and look great.  I have many imperfections on my skin because of so much sun damage from my sunbathing and summer camp counselor days when I was a teenager.  I admit, I feel less confident if I don't cover those up.  So, I have a quick 5 minute make-up daily routine that allows me to feel presentable to the public.  I don't add much for special occasions though because I really am not that good with make-up.

Here's what I use daily:
1. L'oreal True Match Concealer- it covers up my sun spots and scars pretty well.
2. Korean Laneige BB cream- you basically put it on like it's foundation or lotion and it evens out my skin tone and provides a dewy complexion.
3. I put on my ghetto broken bronzer with my blush brush, which adds some color to my face so I don't look like a zombie, even though I feel like one sometimes.
4. Covergirl Long Lasting Lipstick- this lipstick really stays on a long time.
5. Sephora eyelash curler with my L'oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara- I have small eyes, but these really allow my eyes to appear brighter and more awake.

What's in your daily arsenal or do you prefer not to wear make-up?

  1. I might have to try the L'Oreal next time I buy concealer. I have dark circles under my eyes (though I am not a parent and get plenty of sleep); I think it's a hereditary thing.

    1. There's another one I like more, it i ran out, which is why I'm using the L'oreal one. It think it's from cover girl. If you find one you like, let me know!

  2. Ohh I've been on the lookout for a good (cheap!) concealer that actual works..thanks for the tips!! I am a firm believer of less is more...and I think most men feel the same! My husband says I used to have "ghost face" from all the makeup I used to wear...yikes! Truth is, I did! And I was grateful that he told me! I love lipstick and usually just wear a bit of foundation wherever I have blemishes (I rarely cover my whole face, it feels gross!), then I put on some lippie (Currently loving Mac's "Lady Danger" as well as "Candy Yum-Yum" for the summer!), some blush (Really loving my Korean cheek tints from Faceshop that I will have to somehow get my Korean pals to send over to me when I'm finished them, haha) aaannnd when I'm up to it, mascara! I feel more beautiful when I don't have so much on and I also feel like I can say "Yes, this is still me" if that makes sense.

I think you are a stunning woman and love your beauty routine and how minimal it is (broken bronzer and all...hey, it still works! so who cares!) :) You are an inspiration to me for when I have kiddos, I can only hope to look so polished :) xxoo

    1. my husband definitely prefers less is more, also!

I've heard some great things about Faceshop. I'm going to have to be on the look out for that brand.

Thank you for your kind words! I am not inspiring at all and I just do what I need to do. I know you will be a wonderful, caring, and GORGEOUS mother some day!

  3. I laughed at the "ghetto broken bronzer" part. I've done the same thing trying eke out every last bit of broken product so it wouldn't be "wasteful". It's an Asian thing inherited from my mom...haha.

I don't have kids but there are days when I'm very short on time trying to get ready, and I'd still put a bit of makeup on because it makes me feel better, and it's a courtesy to other people (another inheritance from mom). I think you proved less is more and you should just continue to do whatever makes you feel great!
