I gasped when I saw Anna Sui's Spring 2012 collection. I love the 1930s silhouettes and many of the dresses and rompers themselves are ethereal, but the addition of the eye-popping headpieces, necklaces, and other jewelry really makes her collection stand out. The edginess juxtaposed with the sweetness really brought her collection together. LOVE!

What I Wore on Valentine's Day

As many of you know, going out on Valentine's Day is insane and takes much effort, patience, and cash. Instead, the hubs and I spent an evening at home where he made me dinner and brought me beautiful roses. I wanted to be a bit festive, but not decked out in all red or pink since we were just eating dinner at home. So, I just wore the following and I must say, I really do like all the colors and I always receive compliments on the bow belt, which is from Simply Audrey here.

I didn't wear the shoes inside the house, but I wore them out shopping. I have to say they're my favorite thrifted pair to date.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! For Valentine's Day, my son and I made pink heart rice krispies treats. They actually came out more coral pink, but we had fun doing it! You can find the recipe on the back of the box or on ricekrispies.com

our coral pink rice krispies treats.

first, you had 3 tbsp of butter or margarine.

melt the better in a large saucepan, and add a package of mini marshmallows.

it should look something like this, but probably not as deep of a pink. haha.

add 6 cups of rice krispies to the sauce in the saucepan and mix well. then, spread the mixture evenly on a 15" long cookie sheet.

Mommy Monday~ It Goes By So Fast

My son had his birthday a couple of weeks ago- his 3rd birthday. He's already 3! He's growing up way too fast and I can't keep up and I want time to slow down. I want to enjoy spending time with him at home, but I'm already looking into preschools and thinking about what school to send him for Kindergarten. I kid you not, I tear up when I pass by preschools and think about having to spend several hours away from him. Yes, I may sound crazy, but I know many of you moms out there had the same sort of "panic attack" at the thought of sending your firstborn off into someone else's care. It's hard for me because I've been next to him, with him, beside him since he was born. Sigh.

I think seeing my kids grow up so fast is why I'm not looking forward to 30. Yes, I hear people say 30s are better than your 20s or you're more confident in your 30s. That's not my problem. It's not a matter of being more wise or being more confident for me, because I'm already extremely wise and confident (I kid). I just get sad thinking that as I get older, so do my kids. And yes, the changing body/metabolism doesn't help, but it's more of wondering where the time went. It's true- time flies as you get older.

Anyhow, enough of the sappiness. Here are some pictures from his 3rd birthday. He's turning into a big boy. I can't believe how much I love this kid. He's really become outgoing and loud and there's not a day that goes by where my husband and I don't laugh hysterically at his antics.

He started the day off with a playdate and then we had a ghetto fabulous birthday dinner at Incredible Johns (a glorified Chuck E. Cheese) with our closest family friends. I apologize for my daughter half flashing the camera. My fault.

We were fortunate enough to spend some time with my family up in Norcal right before Jonah's birthday. This was cake 1 of 3. I love how he's so enthusiastic about blowing out his candles!

Just love these guys. Funny that they have the same expression here.

This week's shop update is a little different for me. I usually have way more dresses added, but I've been trying to mix things up in the shop a little and have been adding more accessories and little girl's dresses. Yet, my favorite item still has to be that cute pink 1940s wrap dress. I love wrap dresses and this one is just too sweet with all the daisies. Mommy Crush

I know she's all over the internet and blogs right now, so it seems a little cliche that I'm dedicating a post to Michelle Williams. But, this hot mama deserves another photo collage. I've actually liked her since Dawson's Creek (remember that show) and am amazed at her acting skills. I especially admired how she said that raising her child and being a mom was her first priority, in her Golden Globes acceptance speech. With that, she officially became one of the mommy crushes I have. Plus, she's just gorgeous!

I have yet to see her play Marilyn since it's difficult to find a babysitter and difficult to pay over $20 to watch a movie. I haven't watched a movie in a theatre in a while and am patiently waiting for this one to come out on DVD. Can't wait!

Big Bare Wall

It's been over a year since we've lived in our new home and the past year has been so busy and hectic that I still have yet to decorate the home. There are still pictures waiting to be hung and little decorative touches to be added to give the place more personality. In fact, I feel like my home looks like a bachelor pad. I did have an excuse though for not decorating! When we first moved in, I was just entering my 2nd trimester of pregnancy while caring for a toddler while trying to run a business. I just couldn't muster up any extra energy or finances to think about decorating the home.

But, now that the baby is out of me and is already 9 months old, we've all seemed to fall into a schedule, which allows me now to think about how to decorate the home. I would like to start with my big bare ugly dining room wall. I really like some of these options I found on Country Living. All of these are inexpensive, unique, and something that I feel would reflect our family's personality. Which do you think I should use?

here, old vintage frames to frame floating art or other decorative items. they are quite inexpensive if found at a thrift store or flea market.

these are actual leaves found in a backyard or sidewalk and just framed. pressed leaves are such a cute and affordable way to add charming decor to the house. I would love to get my son involved in helping me find the leaves.

here, three flea market chairs were created into one bench. i've always wanted a bench for my dining table!

i'm loving this alternative lamp. here, christmas lights are just filled in a glass jug. this would look great in my living area! Also, gotta love the antique books.

Little Snippets

It's been a while since I've blogged. I couldn't snap out of my mini vacation mode and I've been hooked on watching Felicity on Netflix at night, so my blog and shop took a hit. I needed a mini-vacay though because I can only take so much of working until 2 am. It does feel good to be back blogging and listing items in the shop, so hope you start following along, again.

Here are some snippets from my morning. Mornings are becoming more and more fun as the kids get older. It's so intriguing how my babies are developing their own personalities and likes and dislikes and I feel so blessed to be able to watch them grow up and work from home. I make an effort to not work on the shop while they're awake now and sacrifice sleep. It's all worth it.

All these snippets were taken this morning and they reflect pretty much most of my mornings.

Pictures 1-3: Before Jessie takes her first nap, the kids just eat breakfast and play with various toys. Jessie likes anything and everything. Jonah enjoys dinosaurs, puzzles, and playing drums.

Pictures 4-5: While Jessie naps, Jonah watches an educational show while I brush my teeth and try to get one major chore done. Today was hang drying my vintage clothing and cleaning the bathrooms.

Pictures 6-10: Today, we were lucky to have lunch with my hubs at Lee's Sandwich. The kids lunches were homemade while I bought myself a $2.50 grilled chicken sandwich. Jonah had a ham, cheese, avocado sandwich on whole wheat and Jessie had a mango, apple, banana homemade mash up with little pieces of wheat bread. Then, they had a blast playing with each other through the window of the sandwich shop.

Pictures 11-12: We play for about 20 minutes after lunch, before nap time. Today, we just played in front of our garage. Jonah recently learned how to ride a bike by himself and it's wonderful but sad to see how much more self-sufficient he's becoming in so many things. They sure do grow up fast.

Being a wife and mother is quite the best and worst thing I've done. A Quick Mommy Outfit

I realize that all my outfits are "quick" or "last minute." The truth is they are. I literally browse my closet for a minute and lately, I just have one requirement for my everyday outfits:

1) It must be breastfeeding friendly

There is nothing more frustrating than trying to maneuver your shirt or dress to provide a sufficient meal for a fussy baby. I love this flowy top from Simply Audrey because it has buttons- a breastfeeding mom's friend.

I threw this outfit on when my husband and I were going to meet (with the kids) for an impromptu lunch date, but then he backed out due to work piling up. I kept it on at home though because I realize I feel better if I brush my hair and don't wear my pajamas at home. Also, who says moms can't wear heels? I'm 5'2" on a good day, so I need all the help I can get. I get the occasional, "You're a mom and you wear those shoes?" I've earned every right to wear whichever shoes I want, thank you very much.

Moms of Etsy ~ Desiree of ArtDecoDame

I am extremely honored and excited to bring you the following interview of the gorgeous Desiree from the Etsy shop ArtDecoDame. She has an amazingly curated shop full of vintage from the 20s to the 60s with bright photography and a wide variety of apparel. She does all this while watching her two lovely children and pets! Find out how she balances her life as mother and shopkeeper in the following interview!

Meet Desiree

What inspired you to start your Etsy shop?

Honestly, it was becoming so disenchanted with selling on eBay. I sold for years on there off and on. When I got pregnant with my daughter it became my full-time gig, but its a different crowd. You feel lost amongst a sea of other things and the fees are painful. Etsy, due to being more select in what they allow you to sell on the site, you don't get that. I'd put it off for about a year, though friends kept telling me to sell on there, because I felt like it was more marketed at handmade. But Etsy has a great vintage selection and vintage sellers!

How many kids do you have and when do you find is the best time to work on your shop?

I have two kidlets! My daughter Heidi is 4 and my son Wayland is 2.

The best times I've found to work on my shop is throughout the day when I can. I always take photos when I have natural light so I'll set them up with an art project while I take photos of inventory. When they're eating breakfast, I'll take that time to either sneak in a listing or work on ironing any clothing I've picked up. I try and do prep work throughout the day so I can knock out listings either that night or the next morning.

With kids you just come to terms with the fact that you're NOT going to accomplish everything you want to do right then and there when you're feeling motivated. So, instead of getting frustrated that you can't work when you feel like, it it is better to break up what you need to do in smaller to do lists.

What time do you go to bed at night?

I am unfortunately a night owl. I thought having kids would help that but it didn't. I'm good at making sure I'm in bed by midnight. Sometimes I can fall asleep right away and other times it'll be one or 2 in the morning before I can sleep. I have an overactive mind and it doesn't shut off until I'm too exhausted to do anything other than shut my eyes.

What time do you get up and do you need caffeine?

My kids are my alarm clock and they're usually up a little before 7am. Sometimes I can con them into snuggling in bed with me till 7:30am. I'm not an early bird so yes, coffee is my best friend in the morning.

Do you take your children with you while hunting for vintage for the shop? If so, what are some helpful tips.

Yes I do. The preferred method is always to go childless, but that is not always the reality for a lot of us. I will say shopping with one is so much easier than 2 ( and if you're going with more than 2 you deserve sainthood). When my daughter was a baby, it was so easy to put her in my Baby Bjorn carrier and go. My best advice is to make sure your kids are fed before you go! I can't say I would dare bring my kids to an estate sale or auction, but yard sales and thrift stores are easier. I try to give mine something to hold when we go in the store so they're less likely to grab other things.

What is your favorite item in the shop?

Hmmm,that's a toss up between my Bakelite acorn brooch and the lucite purse!

Do you have a go to meal you cook on those days where you're overwhelmed?

I wish I did! I'm very fortunate to have a husband that loves to cook so on days I'm feeling overwhelmed, he'll happily cook for me.

What is the best and hardest thing about working from home with little ones?

The best part is I'm here with them. I'm not missing them grow up. The worst is online sales aren't always reliable like an out of the home job. Also finding balance, though your shop needs attention to work you can feel like finding that balance between giving it the proper attention and being there for your kids is a tight rope.

6 Years Ago, I Married My Best Friend

I can't believe it's already been 6 years since January 14, 2006- the day I married my best friend. I won't lie and say this marriage has been a cake walk. In fact, there has been many challenges and struggles like every other marriage has had. However, I can now say that if it weren't for the hardships God placed in our lives, our marriage wouldn't be as strong as it is now. I know I married the right man for me and I love him more now than I did six years ago. I mean it. Enough of the sap. Gross.

But damn, we look young in this pictures. We were! I was 23 and Mo was 26. I feel even older because these pictures are a bit grainy, like it was taken ages ago, or something.

Comfort Food On the Go - Korean Kimbap

I hate thinking of what to make for dinner and I know 99.9% of moms out there agree. Often, I want to make something and I'm missing the one key ingredient, so I have to think of something else. What's great about kimbap (gheem-bhop) is that there are so many different combinations of ingredients you can use to make this. The other reason why I love kimbap is that it's so portable and easy to feed kids if you're going on a short outing. My son LOVES this. He actually says, "I love kimbap."

My recipe is what I grew up on and it's not the healthiest, but it's hearty and it tastes good. This is my comfort food and actually my mom's recipe. Other popular ingredients you can use are spam, bulgogi, cucumber, spinach, carrots, artificial crab meat, and canned tuna.

Here are the ingredients you need for my family's kimbap with some minor changes. Makes 8 rolls:
4 hot dogs, pan fried after cut, or boiled
3 eggs beaten, then fried into a large circle
1 layer of fish cake (pan fried and cut into long slices)
8 slices of daikon (comes pre packaged in long slices, or you can slice them yourself)
1 cup of kimchi (chopped and washed)
6 cups of rice ( I miss brown and white)
8 sheets of kim (seaweed)
sesame oil
salt
pepper

eggs, hot dog, and fish cake, cut into long slices

i wash the kimchi and slice it so that my son can eat it without the kimbap being too spicy

First, I need to prepare the rice. Because I have a pressure cooker, my brown rice comes out sticky. To make kimbap, you need soft sticky rice and the rice has to be completely cooled. I season the rice with about 3 tbsp. of sesame oil, and salt and pepper to taste. I don't season the kim, so the rice needs to not be bland.

I place the kim on a flat surface and using my hands covered with plastic kitchen gloves, I spread about 3/4 cup of rice onto the kim, leaving about 1/2 border of kim without rice on it. A bamboo rolling mat is helpful to put under the kim, but I don't have time for that, so I just make do and roll the kimbap myself.

Next, leave about an inch space at the bottom and start piling your ingredients on top of and next to each other. See the picture below for a better idea.

You could make it look prettier than I did, but whenever I make this, I'm working as fast as I can and presentation is not an issue, even if I know I'm going to blog about it. :P

Start rolling slowly. I don't have any pictures of rolling, but this blog does a much better job of explaining and providing visuals, so take a look for some technical pointers. I just make sure that after each roll, I gently "massage" the kimbap to make sure it's keeping it's shape and that it's tight and packed.

Afterwards, you can just eat it as a whole, or I like to slice the roll up, which makes it easier for Jonah to eat.

Quick Thinking

If you haven't noticed across Twitter, Instagram, and whatever networking site there is, Southern California has been having gorgeous near 80 degree weather for the past couple of weeks. So, silly old me thought I'd wear this dress from Simply Audrey with my favorite summer platforms from Blowfish Shoes and go thrifting at this hip little place while my husband stayed home with the napping kiddos.

I had a great thrifting experience and finally found some dark jeans that fit! As I walked to my car to finish the rest of my errands, post office and Costco, I realized how cold it had gotten in an hour. I had not brought a jacket or a sweater, and the thought of entering Costco's frozen section in my little dress gave me more of the chills. So, I sat in the car in Costco's parking lot and not so discreetly put on my just purchased skinny jeans and it saved my a**. Literally. I just tucked my dress in and made it a blouse. So, thank you thrifting, once again, for a lovely and cheap purchase. Now I have two outfits in one!

Since much of the content of this blog deals with being a stay-at-home mom while working from home, I like to showcase others in similar situations as myself. I really do enjoy connecting with other mothers that own Etsy shops. Each have such different stories, inspirations, yet are all connected with a love for their children. I've recently been emailing/tweeting with Ellyn from VintageAga- an irresistibly adorable shop full of vintage clothing for the little ones. Ellyn's shop carries clothing for both boys and girls, ranging from apparel for newborns to size 8. Her bright photography captures the clothing very well and each piece is extremely affordable! Amazingly, she does all this while caring for 2 little ones!

It was a combination of many things! I left my job as a newspaper reporter last year to be a full-time mama. But after I quit last winter and gave birth to my second child in May, I secretly missed working. I wanted something to call my own while balancing mommyhood. At the same time, I had amassed a pile of vintage finds that I knew other mamas would like. And I wanted to promote the idea of infusing vintage into our children’s wardrobes. It saves money, promotes preservation and recycling, and gives our kids a unique, non-cookie cutterlook!

How many kids do you have and when do you find is the best time to work on your shop?
I have two kiddos, Ella, who is nearly three years old, and Miles, who is seven months old. They are my priorities so working on the shop really depends on their schedules. Fellow mamas would know that raising a toddler and infant can get nutty; sometimes, I barely have any time to take a shower and eat a meal. Other days, the kids synchronize their naps and I get to take shop photos, edit them and list a few items. Most of the time, I work when they go to bed at night.

What time do you go to bed at night?
I usually hit the sack around midnight - when I can’t keep my eyelids open anymore. If I can manage to stay up longer, I usually sleep around 1 or 2 a.m. so that I can squeeze in some work.

What time do you get up and do you need caffeine?
I wake up around 7:30 a.m. with the kids. If I really have the need, I drink coffee to rev up my system. Most days, I don’t drink coffee. I am, however, a big Diet Coke girl. It’s my vice!

Do you take your children with you while hunting for vintage for the shop? If so, what are some helpful tips.
My kids are attached to me ALL THE TIME, so wherever mama goes, babies go. I usually go in the morning when Miles needs his morning nap. My koala loves to sleep in a baby carrier while I shop. My toddler can be demanding while we’re out so I make sure to bring a lot of snacks to keep her preoccupied. If I go thrifting, I make sure to swing by the book section first so my toddler can sift through them while I peruse. If I check out an estate sale, I might take one of the munchkins with me on the weekend.

Is Etsy a job, hobby, or both?
I’d call my shop a hobby-job. I do it because I love finding great vintage items and sharing them with like-minded people. I also have this weird thing about not being able to abandon a treasure that could go to a loving home and find a second life. I also set my own schedule so the flexibility makes it feel less like a typical job. It is a job in the sense that what I do takes a tremendous amount of time. I don’t want to send junk over to my customers. I mend, launder and press the items. I take flattering photographs. I try to describe the items accurately. And I wrap the items up like it’s a present. Don’t you love getting pretty things in the mail, too?

What is your favorite item in the shop?
I sold it! It was a beautiful toddler girl dress from the 1950s, with candy cane red-and-white stripes, a smocked waist and a pointed collar. I wish I saved it for my girl!

Do you have a go to meal on those days where you're overwhelmed by your family, work, Etsy, etc.? What is it?
When it gets crazy around the house, my husband puts on his superhero cape and brings home a yummy dinner from one of our favorite seafood joints. When I’m overall stressed, a bit of chocolate makes me happy. French fries also make me giddy.

A Dress That Deserves Its Own Post

This has to be one of the most amazing early 1950s dresses I've laid my eyes on. It's a stiff cotton that's been painted gold and black with this fabulously unique animal print with sequins galore! My jaw drops everytime I look at it and I can only hope that my husband can take me somewhere fancy enough to wear this beauty.

Whoever this dress goes to will be the owner of a rare piece. But, until then, I will stare at it and daydream. You can find the dress here.

Hair Envy

When I was pregnant, no one told me that I would go bald after I had the baby. That's a slight hyperbole, but I do have massive hair loss happening over here and it does not seem to stop. Instead, I now have weird baby hairs growing all over, so I have to keep my bangs to cover my forehead and I'm trying to grow my hair out for the first time in years. After looking at these runway models with their lustrous hair and hair extensions, I developed hair envy. I wish I had thicker hair and I wish I knew how to do a cute pony tail/updo. My poor daughter Jessie will be the only girl in class with uneven pigtails, unbraided because mama does not know how to french braid. Sad.

Which hairstyle do you like the most? I'm really feeling the streak of blonde on the Asian girl...

Makeovers for 2012

Instead of using the term "resolution," I will be using the term "makeover" for my goals for 2012. I don't do well with resolutions, but makeovers seem fun.

Anyhow, as you can tell by my blog, that was my first makeover. I've finally figured out how to maximize my pictures, like the one taken above with my new iphone. I'm pretty excited to blog for 2012. I have some new things I want to blog which are geared more towards moms, but can be relatable to all women- fast homecooked meals, fashionable moms, as well as continuing my quest on finding the super stay at home mothers.

My second personal "makeover"- entering the smartphone world. I was pretty stubborn about not getting a smartphone because I didn't find it necessary to pay extra charges and thought it would take time away from my daily duties. But, i've realized how much more I can capture of my kids because of this little contraption. I've been having a hard time taking photos and videos of Jessie, my daughter, but I've already taken more videos and pictures in 24 hours of her than I have in 2 months.

Third makeover- get toned. I asked my husband to buy me the crazy cardio workout collection called "Insanity" as my push present. Well, being the good husband that he is, he did and it's been 8 months and I've only done 10 minutes of it, which by the way kicked my ass. So, my goal isn't to lose however many pounds. It's to finish this crazy workout. I pray that I don't die.

Speaking of prayer, that will be my next makeover- my prayer life along with reading the Bible. Yes, I love Jesus and I attend church and I don't want to be a Christian that only prays and reads the Bible on Sundays. So, I would like to makeover my spiritual life by reading and journaling at least once a week. That seems so small, but so often I've made these hefty goals and resolutions and never followed through. But, I think once a week is definitely achievable.

My last makeover will be my shop. I started the shop at the end of 2009 and life has been full of so many "new" events that after 2 years, I feel like I'm just getting the hang of running the shop. When I started, I was a new mother. Then, we bought a new house and I became pregnant a few months after that. I finally have a schedule set with my two kids and both are sleep trained, so my shop will receive the attention it deserves. I will also be getting a new dress form and hopefully a new camera while modeling more with my new toned body. ha.

Favorite Dress Sold- miss this dress and wish I could have worn it somewhere.

Favorite Life Changing Event- I would have put this picture first, but didn't want to scare anyone off. This was definitely by far my favorite life changing event of 2011. As you can tell, I'm overcome with emotion after seeing my daughter, Jessie, for the first time. I am so blessed.

Favorite Family Picture- I know I've already shown this one to you, but I realized that we really don't have very many family pictures and this one's pretty awesome, in my opinion. This was actually used in our Christmas card this year. We were the only ones with Grover and Elmo. yes!

New Favorite Online Shop- I love this shop and have bought from it several times this past year. I love this shop even more because it is owned and run by my good friend, Christy. Like myself, she has a daughter and son and is passionate about working from home so that she could be the best mom she could be.

Favorite Item Still in the Shop- pictures just don't do this dress justice. The quality of the material of this dress and the intricate ruffles and lace details are so sweet. Also, the cut of the dress is very flattering.

Favorite Dress I Will List in 2012- yes, this may be a bit premature, but this 1950s dress is simply amazing and my friend, Linda, looks gorgeous in it, no? It is heavy cotton with gold and black painted on it with amazing designs and sequins. I have yet to find such a dress as special as this one. This dress will be listed next week, but if you are interested, shoot me an email.

Disneyland...During the Day

I live literally 1 mile away from Disneyland. Actually, I just googled it, and I live 2.8 miles from Disneyland. Anyhow, it's extremely close and we are extremely spoiled and go every week with our annual passes. However, we got the cheapo passes and can't go for the next couple of weeks, so my husband took a day off from work and we went as a family during the day! This place can really make a person smile, no matter how many times one goes. This was the beginning to our Christmas 2011.

And may I just add, this is December in Southern California. I love it.

Time with Family

I've taken a much longer than expected hiatus from blogging and working, but with good reason. I love tending to my shop, but I must admit that it started to take a toll on the house and quality time spent with the kids. I made an intentional effort the last couple of weeks to work on the shop less so that I could catch up on the housework and focus on the kids. Oddly, the housework is never done, but I have had fun with the family the last couple of weeks. We took a mini-vacation to Sea World in San Diego and have been abusing our Disneyland pass. Bottom line, I'm a stay at home mom to tend to my children, not my vintage shop. I am lucky and fortunate to be able to work from home, but I need to take a step back and realize that the main reason for starting the vintage shop was so that I could raise my kids.

Anyhow, sorry for the long monologue. Here are some family pictures. More family fun time pictures coming soon. Really, it's been fun!

Mommy Mondays: Treating Stains

I don't lead a glamorous life, as you will see in this post. I live a happy, practical one, constantly searching for remedies for little domestic conundrums. As a mother and a vintage seller, I wash and treat a variety of stains on a variety of different fabrics. Here are some household products/appliances that I have found that rescue me from those tough stains.

This is my, and many other vintage sellers as well as mothers, go-to item for getting rid of tough stains. It works on materials made of natural fibers, such as cotton and rayon. They also have an oxiclean made for treating baby clothes! I always soak my clothing that needs some stain removal in this. Beware of clothes that bleed though. However, if you run into the problem of one color of clothing bleeding on another, I just found a solution for that!

I thought I ruined a perfectly beautiful 1950s prom dress, but researched online and found about this magical little substance called Carbona Color Run Remover. This little box comes in individual packets and are hard to find. They are not usually sold in your local grocery store and the most accessible way to buy it is on Amazon. However, I was desperate the other night and found a walmart that carried them and it was the ONLY walmart that carried them within 50 miles of me. It turned my yellow dress that had turned green, back to yellow! I was ever pleased. One box costs a little over $2 and I just bought a bunch.

Here is my last little solution for some tricky stains. Since oxiclean can't work on materials such as silk, I found out that glycerin, i.e. soap, works well and I've used Palmolive on my silk and I'm satisfied. There are some stains that the dry cleaners can't even get rid of, or they use too harsh of chemicals, which could hurt your delicate vintage clothes. But, soaking your special dress or accessory in this for a couple of hours can really do the trick.

These are some of my remedies and I am not claiming that these will fix all the problems, so don't send me any hate mail if you try something and you ruin your dress. That's not my problem. Don't soak items that shouldn't be soaked, like crepe, or anything else that shouldn't touch water. But, they seem to work most of the time! Please share any little laundry secrets by posting comments below!

Weekends Are Crazy

I remember the days when my husband and I would sleep in until 11, wake up and eat a little meal, then take a nap. We would literally stay in bed the entire day at times. Obviously, that is not productive and definitely a luxury. That luxury is long gone and most of my weekends end up looking like the following pictures.

Loads of laundry to wash, fold, and put away.

I have a 2 hour window to go vintage hunting on Saturdays and so I just throw the finds on the floor of my bedroom until I have time to clean and organize those.

My son decides to play with unusual items. Here, he has attached my bathrobe to the tricycle I found for him at a thrift store.

This is all from Saturday morning. Weekends are much more packed and we always have something to go to, but I wanted to share my glamorous life. Ha. Yes, I do miss being able to sleep in and spend a whole day in bed. However, as crazy as it sounds, I love this more and wouldn't trade it for anything!

Things I've Learned - Yr 2

So, my 2 year Etsyversary came and went. I always ask in my interviews to other Etsy sellers what advice they can give to others. Here are some things I've learned for myself.

1. Find a way for your shop to stand out. Because of Etsy's new relevancy search becoming the default, renewing tons of items a day won't cut it and bring in as many views as it once did. So, either make your items stand out through your backgrounds, models, lighting, or any way you can think of. I became desperate because my views got so low that I started modeling myself in my postpartum body. Luckily, it brought on more views.

2. Don't get discouraged about low sales. This industry has seasons of lows and highs. If you are having low sales, others are also. Just keep on listing and in a couple of months, your sales will get better. I've seen this pattern the last 24 months, so I don't get as discouraged (although it is still quite nervewracking when the sales do get low.)

3. Etsy is a community and people are helpful, but only up to a certain point. When I first began Etsy, I expected people to be super nice and lend a helping hand regarding anything. But, I realized that Etsy is also a competitive marketplace and sometimes, you won't get help with certain questions. You're going to have to figure some things out for yourself, like photography lighting, or where to find items for your shop.

I'll stop here because I don't want to bore anyone with my essay. Hope these are helpful. Anyone agree, disagree, or have any other sage advice to offer?

I apologize for being so sporadic with my posts the last two weeks. Both of my little ones were sick, so that left little to no time for blogging. I sometimes wonder if it's necessary to blog and if I should continue because honestly, I'm really bad at this. I've weighed the pros and cons and I realized that this blog is a reflection of my life as a stay-at-home mother running a little business from her home. With most businesses, a blog is somewhat of a requirement and I'm committed to my business. I need to remember that and just commit to this blogging thing and hope I get better at it.

Two Things I Adore

I adore this pink late 1950s party dress and am sad that it doesn't fit me. This dress will be in the shop within the next couple of days.

I adore my little son in the corner trying to stay out of my way while I was working. Obvious fail, but he's just too adorable in his undies, crouching in the corner. I don't just adore him, I LOVE him and it took much effort to not keel over laughing.

Conversations with My Non-Vintage Husband

The other night, I turned on the classic "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to unwind after one of the longest weekends ever. My husband comes downstairs and this is the conversation we had:

Hubs: What are you watching?
Me: Breakfast at Tiffanys.
Hubs: With Molly Ringwald?
Me: No, that's The Breakfast Club. That was in the 80s.
Hubs: Oh. I've watched only 1 or 2 movies older than the 1970s.
Me: Which ones?
Hubs: Casablanca. It was boring.
Me: What was the other one?
Hubs: I said one OR two.
Me: Uh, ok. What's the second one?
Hubs: Does "Enter the Dragon" count?

Hubs starts watching and Audrey Hepburn appears: Who's that?
Me: Are you kidding me?
Hubs: What? Who's that?
Me: Audrey Hepburn.
Hubs: Oh. I've heard of her.
Me: What?? Anyways, isn't she pretty?
Hubs: She's alright.

Needless to say, he made my night longer instead of letting me unwind. Still love him though.

Mommy Checklist for the Day

This is a bit embarrassing, but this is the status quo of my living room right now. Hurricane Jonah and Jessie have torn through and after a weekend of non-stop events, I have to put the house back in order. I know moms understand me, but life is a never-ending checklist. I hope to get through all of these items today, but it's probably wishful (and slightly delusional) thinking.

But, I do well with pressure and when something/someone keeps me accountable, so I'm going to list the items I would like to get done today and make it visible so that I can come back tomorrow and say that I've done them. Here's my checklist.

1. Dust the living room

2. Wash and PUT AWAY 4 loads of laundry (the put away is the hard part for me)

3. Wash the kitchen floors.

4. Cook dinner.

5. Soak some vintage clothes.

6. Photoshoot of at least 6 items today.

7. List at least 5 items in the shop.

8. Pack and ship items.

9. Vacuum.

10. Pick up and drop off some dry cleaning.

After listing my to do list for the day, I don't think it's that bad. I realized these are all do-able if I didn't have 2 little ones to take care of at the same time. Ha. Any unusual things on your checklist today?

Mommy Monday: I Love Happy Babies

Every day of motherhood gets better! I love my children, and yes, there are some days when the two of them drive me crazy, but my love for them grows each day. I can't help but crack a huge smile when I see my little daughter laugh at herself when she looks in the mirror. I feel extremely blessed to have two healthy, happy babies and so even though sales are down in the shop and finances are a bit stressful, I need to remember the good things and thank God every day for such wonderful gifts!

2. My walls are very bare. I have this fear that things will fall on my head while I'm sleeping if there was an earthquake. What? I live in CA.

Two Steps Back

Two steps forward, and one step back.

I feel like this happens to me often. I thought I got to a place where I could handle the shop, blog, and staying at home. I did, but staying up until 3 am wore down on me, and I just crashed this past week. But, I stayed away too long from the shop, so views and sales are down, again. I need to find the right formula between the 3 so that I never burn out and get tired like my little one on top of the sea turtle statue. Anyone out there have the right formula or advice?

I keep promising that I will be back with new listings every night, but the little baby's been teething and it's been a nightmare to get her to sleep. She used to be such a good sleeper, but she's been waking up more frequently and taking longer to put down, so by the end of the day, I'm physically and mentally drained. Editing photos and putting up listings just seem too burdensome at 9 pm. But, I've decided that one listing is better than no listing and our family needs any extra income we can get. So, instead of stressing myself out every night about how I'm not getting listings up, I'm going to start small and see how it goes.

For real, I will be back with at least 1 new listing tonight.

Happiest Place on Earth

My apologies for being MIA from the blog and from the shop for almost a week. I think returning back to work and running on 4-5 hours of broken sleep per night for a month wore me down badly and I have needed this past week to recover physically. Posting of some fabulous vintage dresses and accessories will commence again late tonight, so please stop by the shop, especially because there is a SALE occurring to celebrate the end of September!

Anyhow, our family lives less than 2 miles from Disneyland, so we got the cheapest annual pass. Last week was Jessie's first time at Disneyland, and she did very well. Here are some pictures from the happiest place on earth, albeit some crappy ones. I had no idea for a while why my pictures were coming out with bright spots, but then I realized that my son played with the lens of the camera and there were some spots on it that just needed a good wiping. Oops.

So, here's another semi-outfit post. This is actually what I frequently wear, but it's semi still because I haven't given a full body shot. Honestly, it's really hard to put in a lot of effort into my hair, make-up, and clothes when the time to do that is small to none. I usually put on a dress, which is really easy, or I throw on this breastfeeding friendly shirt with a comfortable pair of jeans. I think I wear this shirt at least 2x a week. So, here I am in jeans, white shirt, with minimal make-up. At least I combed my hair. Ha.

Mommy Monday: Some Proud Moments

Our family has been quite busy the past two weekends- actually, ever since Jonah was born. Anyhow, I wanted to share some moments that definitely made me smile.

This was Jonah's first time hitting a pinata and I was actually somewhat impressed. My son is somewhat timid and he's really sweet, so I was surprised when he hit it forcefully. We especially enjoyed his one-hander. Definitely made my husband proud, can't you tell by his little commentary?

The other proud moment was this past weekend when my husband took Jonah to the Dodgers game with the men from church. Moses, my husband, caught a homerun ball in the 1st inning! He doesn't even like the Dodgers, but he may like them a little more now. I just think it's funny how happy Mo looks in these pictures. Those who know Moses will know that he does not smile often, so these pictures made me smile. It melts my heart how much Mo loves Jonah and how Jonah LOVES his dad.

This is a semi-outfit post because I have not actually worn this dress, yet. Ever since I began modeling for the shop, I keep coming across items that are hard to let go. This dress fits me like a glove, and not many dresses do with my post-baby, breastfeeding body. Although I have not worn this dress out yet, I may just ask my husband to take me out somewhere just so I can have a reason to wear it. You can find the dress here.

Little Snippets

Here are a few little snippets of my life.

Picture 1: 8:00 a.m.- Jessie always wakes up with a smile.

Picture 2: 8:15 a.m.- Make breakfast for myself and my son. Today's menu is eggs with ham.

Picture 3: During breakfast- Jonah entertains himself with some markers and a dinosaur activity book.

Picture 4: 10:00 a.m. - Run errands. This one is grocery shopping at a Korean supermarket. Jonah's perusing the Korean snack section.

Picture 5: If I decide not to run an errand, I work on chores and the house. I finally started to decorate Jessie's room.

Picture 6: 2:00 p.m. - Work on the shop. Here's a pile of vintage I need to clean, sort, steam, etc.

The kids wake up around 4-4:30 and I get dinner ready. Lately, Mo's been the best husband and has been washing the dishes and he always gives Jonah a bath. So, I get to work on the shop after Jessie goes down at 8 and I sleep at 2:30 a.m.. Then, my day begins at 7:30 a.m. when Jonah wakes up.

Moms of Etsy~ Beth of REiNViNTAGE and REiNViNTAGEkids

One great aspect of shopkeeping on Etsy is networking with others. There are some people you just click and connect with right away, and Beth from REiNViNTAGE is definitely one of the friendliest vintage moms on Etsy! Not only is she friendly, but her shop is well-stocked with gorgeous vintage apparel. She recently began a second shop for little kids, also! Get to know Beth and how this super-mom handles her shop, family, and work.

What inspired you to start your Etsy shops?

After working in corporate America for 7 years, I started feeling like my creative side was being severely neglected. While I was out on maternity leave with our first son I started brainstorming things to do/make on Etsy. I was also hoping I could find something that would help us bring in some extra income in the future so I could stay out a little longer whenever we decided to have another child. I started reading more on the Etsy blog and came across a QYDJ article about another vintage shop and her story just clicked: www.etsy.com/blog/en/2009/quit-your-day-job-advintagous/

I had been collecting vintage clothing and accessories since high school and my collection had gotten pushed to the back of my closet behind all of my Anne Klein business suits. I decided it was time to dig it out again and see what I had! I felt like opening a vintage shop might be the perfect way for me to feel whole again - to reinvent myself - and bring some fun back into my wardrobe… so, REiNViNTAGE was born.

After 6 months, things were going great; I was thrilled! Then we found out we were expecting our 2nd child, which I just knew would be a girl. While thrifting I started picking up little vintage dresses whenever I saw them. But in October we found out #2 was another boy…so much for intuition! :) About a month or so later I started planning REiNViNTAGEkids. My hope was to open it in January, but as my pregnancy progressed that date quickly got changed to “whenever I get the energy”. Our 2nd son was born March 19th and REiNViNTAGEkids opened at the end of June.

How many kids do you have and when do you find is the best time to work on your shop?
We have two boys, Will (2yrs) and Charlie Fletcher (5.5mo). When I was on maternity leave, I would work most days during Will’s naptime (1-3pm) and then again at night after he went to bed around 7:00. Now that I’m back at the day job I’m more reliant on my time in the evening, and then use my lunch hour to go to the post office, catch up on convos or edit photos. I’ve never made “set” hours for my shop because it’s so hard to stick to that plus the boys’ schedules!

What time do you go to bed at night? Heh… *usually* between 10-11pm.

What time do you get up? My alarm goes off at 6am and I snooze until about 6:30 (or whenever one of the boys decides it’s time to get up).

Do you take your children with you while hunting for vintage for the shop? If so, what are some helpful tips. Rarely. When I was out my husband would stay with the boys one day a week so I could go out and it was such a treat! I’ve taken Charlie out with me a few times – he’s a great shopping buddy because he just hangs out in the stroller and smiles. The best advice I can give is to make sure they have a full belly :)

Is Etsy a job, hobby, or both? Both! But more of a hobby since I still have a full time day job. I used to be a sales manager and got switched to a customer service position where I don’t make commission or bonuses anymore. The shop helps supplement our income and without me having to work crazy long hours during the day!

Growth and Loss

So, my bangs finally are starting to GROW out, and I've lost much of the baby weight! Still have 7 more pounds to get to pre-first baby weight, and 4 more to get to pre-Jessie weight. I'm going to start Insanity soon, hopefully, if the kids don't kill me first. Ha. I kid. I love them.

The outfit is nothing special, but just a bit of what I wear everyday as a mom of 2. I'd like to turn this blog into an adventures of a stay-at-home with an online business type of blog. So, if that doesn't suit your fancy, you should stop reading this blog. (Thanks to those who do read this blog, btw! I really appreciate it!)

Mommy Mondays- H&M for Babies and Kids

I stopped blogging for a while, and updating the shop, wondering if I should continue with both. I felt very uninspired to continue with the Etsy shop due to some changes in Etsy and just plain exhaustion. Blogging and finding topics to blog on also proved burdensome. I forgot why I started this blog and why I started the shop.

Right now, my calling in life is to be a good mom and a good wife and I wondered if blogging and running the shop was taking away from that. Then, I realized that I started these things to be a stay at home and help my husband out financially, also. So, I feel revitalized and I'm back! There will be some great new items added to the shop next week, when I return from vacation, and I'm blogging again with a new perspective.

Every Monday, I want to share some cute baby/kids finds, activities, ideas- just anything that relates to being a mommy because that's who I am and I like finding and sharing these things. Thursday Tips- Home Edition

A couple of months ago, I came upon this blog post from Belle Maison, one of my favorite go to blogs for design inspiration. I loved this particular post because many of the ideas were practical, affordable, while adding some character to the home. Here are some tips, with a little spin so that I can apply it to my kids and shop, also.

Tip 1: Hang jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets, on a paper towel holder. This tip is especially helpful if you sell vintage jewelry, like myself. Can't wait to try this tip out and add a little to my room decor! (Click here for more information.)

Tip 2: Use personalized, or labeled, storage buckets in an entryway bookcase. I'm thinking of putting these in my kids' rooms and label it with where their toys should go. More colorful than baskets and label friendly and definitely cost friendly! (Click here for more information.)

Tip 3: Use an ice cube tray to store rings, earrings, brooches, and any other small jewelry. My jewelry drawer is a mess and it becomes a chore to look for a certain item, so I love this idea!

First Night Away

This past weekend, my husband and I attended a wedding of some good friends of ours from church. It was the first time we left Jessie for a long period of time, and I have to say, my heart ached leaving her. But, as you can tell by the picture, we ended up having a good time. Jessie did not, but thank goodness she can't remember.

I received many compliments on the dress, which I purchased online from Lulu's. I searched for a vintage dress, but my body just wasn't ready yet to fit into those 1950s dresses I adore. This dress had a relaxed fit on the bust and waist, which worked perfectly.

And yes, my husband is apparently a happy drunk, and yes, that is him showing his nipples. Good times.

Haagen Daaz Breastmilk

I've been out of commission for almost two months now. I decided to give myself a maternity leave because I drove myself crazy even just thinking about running an Etsy shop while taking care of two kids and being a bit sleep deprived. So, while I was away, I spent more time with my son because his world has been rocked, and I obviously fed my daughter, which you will see in the upcoming pictures.

With my first son, a friend of mine told me I had Haagen Daaz breastmilk because my son plumped up pretty fast. Jessie is defnitely not as big as my son, but she's definitely packing on some weight.

6 weeks, with remnants of baby acne.

7 Weeks. yes, that's drool.

8 weeks- thug fo' life.

9 weeks- what? the camera adds 10 pounds.

I love these 2!

Changes

For those who actually do follow my blog and my shop, you may notice my lack of posts and shop updates. Due to the new addition to the family, my daily routine I once had with one child must change.

Before Jessie was born, my son had 3 hour naps during the afternoon- a wonderful time frame for me to work, blog, and start dinner. However, he decided to cut his nap in half after Jessie entered the picture, so I've decided to cut my store hours to accommodate my children's needs.

Instead of listing new items everyday and taking pictures every day, I've decided to work only 3 days a week, during the night. That way, I can cook, clean, and spend time with both of my kids during the day, instead of neglecting them to tend to the shop.

Thank goodness Jessie sleeps well while I photograph items for the shop. Here are pictures of my not so pretty work space- my bedroom.

Not so fancy, but I have to make do with what I have.

The photo shoot clothes are on my bed and I have now added a playpen to the bedroom, so space is definitely getting tight!

But, the changes are all worth it. I apologize for the quality of the photo. It was taken with my crappy phone.

Now, that I'm getting more into a routine, expect more posts and shop updates. I promise!

I Need "Need Supply Co."

I don't necessarily NEED these items from Need Supply Co. but if I had the funds, I would not mind owning several, or all, of the items from their online shop.

It feels good to not have to wear pregnancy clothes anymore. I just fit into a pair of jeans the other day. Granted they were my biggest pair, but they weren't maternity jeans, so I did a little dance. Browsing online just became fun again and I may just buy a little treat for myself from this fun store! Which one do you like?

85°C Bakery Cafe

The other day, I ventured out with my mother and my two children to a popular bakery called 85 degrees here in SoCal. Before I go on my healthy eating and Insanity program, which will start once I get the ok from my midwife at my 6 week check-up, I want to enjoy little desserts without any inhibitions.
Here are our spoils:

My favorite is the white colored bread on the top left, called rose bread, I think.

Also, the one on the right in the middle has blueberry cream cheese feeling

and that's super yummy, also. All of this came out to be only $13!

I couldn't get better pictures of all the pastries because there was such a long

line and I had my two kids with me. This was the best I could get over

people's heads with zoom.

All the lovely Asian people picking out the lovely Asian bread.

I apologize for my lack of pictures of the yummy goodies, but I realized taking pictures proves difficult with two kids under the age of 3, but you get the idea. I like bread and sweets. I think this place is definitely worth checking out if you've never been. Yum!

I'm Back! and Birth Story

I can't believe it's been a month since my last post! So much has happened since then and so much has changed. Our family welcomed this little peanut on May 5, 2011 at 1:06 pm:

Meet Jessie Yesuh Kim- 6 lb 8oz, 19.5 in. long.

I was 5 cm dilated for several days and she just would not come out! I would have about 3-4 contractions every hour, which lasted several days, but I was still not in labor. Out of desperation, I called labor and delivery and told them that my water could possibly be leaking (which it wasn't) and after going in at 2 a.m. after eating a slice of pizza with sriracha, they concluded that my water wasn't leaking, but would admit me because I was about 6 cm dilated at that point. I guess I have a high pain tolerance because the nurse would look at me after a contraction and ask "Do you not feel that?" I would reply, "I do. Is it supposed to be bad?" Anyhow, I was still a wimp and quickly asked for the epidural because there was no way I wanted to feel a baby's head pop out of me.

Because she was so tiny compared to her brother, I pushed about 6 times and out she came. I had a midwife deliver me this time and if I ever have another kid, I will go back to a midwife.

I'm brave enough to show my swollen self after delivery. I was just so happy to not be pregnant anymore! I'm probably already nagging Mo here.

Jonah loves his little sister and smothers her with kisses everytime she wakes up to feed. He barely kisses us, but demands that he kiss Jessie and have Jessie kiss him back. There are times where a sliver of jealousy peeks through when his dad holds Jessie, but Jonah seems to be adjusting well and it really is endearing.

He is definitely a proud big brother!

What's amazing to me is how I immediately fell in love with Jessie. I was concerned about Jonah before giving birth and felt bad for him that he would have to share the spotlight, which is silly. Also, I felt concern that I would not love another child as much as I loved Jonah. But, that simply is not the case. I fell in love all over again and love them both so much! The sleep deprivation, cold sores, and carpal tunnel have been all worth it!

What A Difference a Year Makes

Usually, I post pictures of my son and how fast he's growing, and it's true- time flies.

This time, I'm referring to myself. My husband and I were looking through these photos and he told me I looked so young in these pics. It was only 1 1/2 years ago, a month after I opened my Etsy shop. I do look a lot younger in these pictures. What the heck?!?! How'd I age so much? I guess that's what happens when trying to run a business while watching a toddler. But, it's still been one of the best years of my life and I feel very blessed and thankful. Plus, I'm sure a facial and shedding my pregnancy weight will get me looking a little younger again, right? Hope so. Ha.

Also, I wish I still had that vintage cardigan I'm wearing in these pictures. It was so comfortable and versatile. Why in the world did I sell it? I have learned my lesson. If I wear it more than once, I'm keeping it, or at least until another similar item comes along.

Ok, enough complaining.
