Vacation Part 2- A Wedding

I went up to Norcal for the vintage and family, but also because the hub's good friend from college got married.  He's the last of their college crew and we were glad to be a part of the couple's special day.

The venue was at a winery in Livermore, and as you can tell, it was gorgeous.  It got a bit chilly when the sun went down, but we kept warm with a little bit of dancing and a little bit of alcohol (alot for some).

I'm a bit flushed in one of the above pictures because I have the Asian curse of turning red after having one drink.  Needless to say, I had to post that picture because it's one of the few pictures where my hubs is somewhat normal, unlike the last picture where yet again, he had to make a weird face.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I've slowly been adding some transitional pieces to the shop as fall approaches.  But, I haven't stopped listing the whites and sundresses since half the world will be entering warmer weather soon!

My shop is not the only thing going through a change.  I will be revealing some new little projects and looks by the end of this week, so stay tuned.  I'm really excited about it!  Any guesses what it is?  I put a clue on my facebook!

Treasure Island Flea

This picture is one of those "stretch your arms and hope you get something decent" pictures.

Had no idea that the girls in the corner were doing that.

The above girls were imitating this large piece of art.

My lovely parents.

While I was visiting my parents up in the Bay Area, I diligently searched for vintage whenever and wherever I could.  I was disappointed that I would miss the Alameda Pointe Antique Fair by a week, but glad to know that my reliable hometown still offered other options for vintage hunting.  I took my parents and my son, so was unable to take pictures of different booths, but snuck some in of the view at the end.

The Treasure Island Flea is much smaller and has a different feel than the Alameda Pointe Flea and the Long Beach Antique Flea.  It offers both old and newer items and attracts artisans and crafty people. I would say a good 20% of the vendors offered vintage clothing, which isn't very many vendors.  But, I always have more luck finding older pieces in Norcal than I do down in SoCal, so walked away with a good amount of vintage clothes from the 30s-50s.

We arrived right when it opened at 10 a.m. and if you ever go, bring layers of clothes.  I just had left 90 degree weather and was not used to the crisp air.  However, after walking and searching for about 15 minutes, I got used to it and the view was gorgeous.

If I felt less rushed, I think I would have enjoyed the food trucks and the different booths more, but since my son was yelling he was cold and hungry, we left after an hour, which was ample time for me to quickly walk through the entire venue.  Like I said, not large, but good stuff!

So, if you ever are in the Bay Area and want to hit up a hip, fun flea, try this one.

I hadn't realized how long it'd been since I'd given a shop update, so there's an overload of items being shown today.  But, if you're like me, I never get tired of seeing pretty vintage clothing.

I like this update because there are just as much accessories as dresses that I really find beauitful, espeically the shoes.  For me, summer is not over yet, so I'm still listing the remainder of my whites and creams.  My favorites right now have to be the cream mary janes and the last 1950s wedding dress.  Do any stand out to you?

By the way, I really do enjoy blog posts about shop updates.  I used to think they were uninteresting, but realized what is more interesting than looking at other people's vintage finds?  I can't get enough of looking at vintage clothing!

Enjoy!

Leaving On a Jet Plane

Business in the shop and on this blog mistakenly gives the impression that I have been taking a long break this month.  However, that is far from the truth because I don't think I've lost so much sleep since I've had a newborn in the house.  I've been busy preparing for my fab.com sale in September, which meant mending, cleaning, ironing, steaming, and measuring over 100 pieces of vintage over the past two weeks while trying to run the house as status quo and occasionally listing in the good ol' shop.  The stress has caused a breakout on my face that I haven't seen since college and my first real grey hair. Yikes!  Not happy with either.

Fortunately, we have a friend's wedding to attend up in NorCal this weekend, so I'm staying at my parents house with the kids for a few extra days.  I don't get to see my parents that often, so I'm always excited to see them, and so are my kids.  There's no one that can cook Korean food quite like my mom can, and it's like I have 24 hours babysitting when I'm here!  I'll be visiting San Francisco and my alma mater, so more posts to come!

So, all this is to say that I'm on vacation until August 27th and will ship all orders when I return.  I will still be updating the shop regularly, so please take a look! Thanks!

Lil Snippets - All Vintage

I haven't done a Lil Snippets post in a while because I usually am not good about taking pictures throughout the day.  Without planning it, today happened to be an all vintage day and I actually captured it on my iphone!  This explains the fuzzy quality of some of these pictures, but I love the accessibility of the iphone.  I seriously can't remember what life was like before this phone.

So, in no particular order, here was my day:

1. Jessie has a taste for vintage.  She refused to take this red vintage hat off so I could photograph it.  So, I photographed her instead.

2.  Trying to be hipster wearing vintage frames with no lenses. NOT.  Actually, I've always wanted to wear glasses.  I think they make most people look super cute.  But, I've always had perfect vision.  I decided to just play around with these vintage frames.  What do you think?  Maybe I will be hipster and wear these around just for fun!

3.  A close up of a 1940s little girl's vintage dress that will be listed tonight.  It's a poodle with little hearts hanging out of its mouth.  I actually photographed a lot of vintage today trying to get ready for my fab.com sale, and preparing some listings for when I'll be on vacation.

4.  I spent all morning trying to figure out a vintage dress with both of these tags.  I asked on my facebook, instagram, twitter, and actual vintage sellers if they had any idea if the famous costume designer, Charles Le Maire, actually designed for Saks at one point.  No one knew so I actually emailed Saks Fifth Avenue to see if they could dig up any records.  They're going to get back to me within a week.  My hunch tells me that it's legit, and if it is, I'm amazed that I even have this dress in my possession.  More to come on Charles Le Maire on another post, if you don't know of him.

5.  My kids were dancing around while watching their favorite show, "Dinosaur Train," so I decided to sneak in a little 10 minutes of leisure reading of a 1967 design book.  It was full of black and white pictures of amazing homes from the 60s.  This has to be one of my favorite rooms photographed- the hanging plants, raised bookshelf,  and the large windows! Dream room for sure!

How was your day?

1950s Black Diamond LBD

I feel like I was listing more transitional pieces this time last summer, but the weather is in scorching hot mode, so my shop hasn't taken that turn quite yet.  It's currently having a midsummer sale, and will be going on for a while because I will be quite busy in the upcoming weeks, again.

I would love to wear that little abstract print blouse, but it is a tad too big for me.  It's a cool rayon too, which would be great for this weather!

If you all have some tips on how to stay cool while not blasting the AC, I would much appreciate it.  But, I digress.  Have a great day and viva la vintage!

My First Overnighter

As previously mentioned, my husband and I went on a trip to Vegas to send off my twenties!  Besides the 110 degree weather, everything made this one of the best trips we've taken together so far.  Everything just worked out for the best.

After checking into our hotel, Planet Hollywood, I found dirty wet towels all over the bathroom of our hotel.  We told the front desk about it and stated we would be leaving for dinner so housekeeping could alleviate this problem while we were gone. We arrived back in our room 4 hours later at midnight, and there were still dirty wet towels all over the floor.  After my dramatic performance at the front desk, we received a free upgrade to their panoramic suite, which was gorgeous!

Part of the view from our suite.

Our room upon entering.  This was only 20% of the hotel.

Planet Hollywood's interior is decorated with old movie memorabilia.  This coffee table contained image stills and props used from the 1952 movie, "The Greatest Show on Earth."

In addition to the above movie props, they had actual costumes used in the movie "Singing in the Rain," and "Gentlemen Prefer Blones," but because of my small point and shoot and lack of lighting, I was unable to take good pictures.

The hubs and I consumed lots of food on this trip.  We were able to enjoy each other's company and not worry about feeding the kids and cleaning up after their mess.  The first restaurant we chose was the French restaurant Mon Ami Gabi, which is on the strip and has a great view of the Bellagio fountains and hotel.  The food was delicious, the service was top-notch, and the people watching was very interesting. Las Vegas sure has an eclectic mix of people!

The next day, we hit up Max Brenner, inside the Caesar's Palace Forum Shoppes, for lunch.  Due to a late night of partying (yes, we actually partied. haha.), we slept in, checked out late, and had a late lunch.  Max Brenner specializes in chocolate, as you can tell by the picture below.  Everything was delicious!

Max Brenner's onion rings dusted with chocolate powder with dark chocolate ranch dipping sauce.  These were the best onion rings I've ever had and the dipping sauce was tasty!

Our Vegas trip would not be complete without a visit to a buffet, so we decided to try Wicked Spoon inside the Cosmpolitan.  I've only tried one other buffet in Vegas, which is the one in Bellagio, and although Bellagio is a little bigger, Wicked Spoon's food was tastier and the price was unbeatable in Vegas.  This was my dessert tray and I was not disappointed.  The hubs made me stuff the red velvet cookies into my purse for the trip home though and I've never felt more senior citizen-like than at that moment.  But, I had a good laugh.

This is what we look like without kids.  Haha.

Anyhow, I'm so thankful for my mom for allowing us to have this little mini 26 hour trip.  She is amazing with my kids so I felt even more relaxed during our little excursion.  Also, it helped we won a little gambling!  It's never fun to lose.

I do have to admit, I missed my kids.  I have never had an overnighter since the first one was born, and I was that mom that kept pointing out "Jonah would have loved this" or "Jessie would have screamed at that."  My husband said, "I don't miss the kids at all." haha.  By the way, he's like the best father, but a bit less emotional.  Would I do it again?  Hell yes!
