Palm Springs ~ Part 1

You would never guess, but my husband is actually somewhat spontaneous and pretty fun.  He texted me Wednesday morning that we were going to see snow Friday afternoon and stay overnight at Palm Springs.  My son was sooo excited because he's been wanting to see snow ever since he played with fake snow at Sea World in San Diego. (sad, but we live in Southern California where the winters are mostly in the 70s this year.)

We got our hotel and borrowed snow gear from a lovely friend from church and headed off Friday afternoon to our gorgeous resort.

he either sat here or clung tightly as he could to his dad or his uncle

first time sleeping next to each other. i died when i woke up to this. tooo cute!

just pretty

Let me just say that although the resort was gorgeous, it was not a fun night.  Did you know that vacations with little ones aren't really vacations at all?  It's quite a lot of work, actually. Also, the walls were very thin in this particular hotel.  I could hear the toilet seat being taken down in the next room where there were a bunch of guys being extremely loud.  The four of us ended up sharing a king size bed and my poor husband went back and forth from the ground to the bed at least 4 times that night because my son would wake up all flustered at the lack of space.  He had to change the thermostat at least 6 times because we would be sweating hot, and then freezing cold within 10 minutes.  Jessie smelled breast milk on me and refused to unlatch the entire night.

Looking back, mo and I laugh, but that night was one of the longest nights.  We actually waited for morning to come so that the torture would end. Ok, it wasn't torture and we seriously do crack up thinking about that night.  But it sure wasn't restful.

More gorgeous pics to come soon!

I've always loved Shabby Apple and I did a post on this great online shop a while back when I was pregnant!  To me, Shabby Apple is a much more affordable option to Anthropologie, don't you think?  They have gorgeous themed collections and vintage inspired dreamy dresses and other apparel.  And their swimwear collection is definitely head-turning!

I'm in love with their new spring collection titled "Mad Hatter." The bright colors and patterns would really make anyone stand out (in a good way).  Please take a look at this gorgeous online shop!  And in case you missed it, the last dress is on sale!  Just click on the captions for the source!

I Hate Checklists

These were all checklists I created in January.  I guess I was on a new years high and thought I could get everything done and plan everything out.  However, I learned that checklists and plans set me up for failure.  Yes, sometimes they create some sort of direction and motivation, but dealing with 2 kids at home while trying to run an online business seem to interfere with the plans. Also, the checklists didn't include the 10 loads of laundry I do every week and ironing, so they aren't even comprehensive checklists and plans. (i'm not even exaggerating on the amount of loads.  Why do kids change outfits 3x a day and why are my husbands clothes so large?)  Anyhow, after much thought, I am letting these go.

For myself and many other moms, we want control and need to have everything planned and thought out.  There is nothing wrong with scheduling and planning, but it started interfering with my morale because I couldn't get anything done.  I would look at these lists and feel a sense of defeat and feel like I was failing as a mother and wife.  What the heck?  I needed to take a step back and realize there's crap that happens everyday and I needed to get over that silly thought and just do what I can (look at pictures below of the crap that happens in 5 minutes in my house).  Taking care of two toddlers is not an easy task, and they're fed, clothed, and somewhat clean. And you know what? My house is not that bad either.  As soon as I realized that I'm not in that bad of a position and that it's ok to let some stuff go, I've actually been more productive. Forget the lists.  I'm using my husband. Ha!

So my solution to getting things done is actually really using my husband.  I have him watch the kids on weekends so I can clean the house all at once and go vintage hunting.  Hey, I watch the kids while he's working so he can watch the kids while I do my job.  It's only fair.  I have to say, my house has never been cleaner and my vintage closet has never been more organized!  Just feed your husband and give him some lovin' and he's fine.  (kinda jk)

Beth from shopreinvintage wrote this on my fb wall and I couldn't agree more "Do what you can when you can, and when you feel like you can't, don't. Listen to your body. I used to list every day, now I'm lucky to list every week and that's ok ♥"  So true.  Thanks Beth!

Anna Sui Spring 2012

source

I gasped when I saw Anna Sui's Spring 2012 collection.  I love the 1930s silhouettes and many of the dresses and rompers themselves are ethereal, but the addition of the eye-popping headpieces, necklaces, and other jewelry really makes her collection stand out.  The edginess juxtaposed with the sweetness really brought her collection together. LOVE!

Which look is your favorite?  I can't decide!

What I Wore on Valentine's Day

As many of you know, going out on Valentine's Day is insane and takes much effort, patience, and cash.  Instead, the hubs and I spent an evening at home where he made me dinner and brought me beautiful roses. I wanted to be a bit festive, but not decked out in all red or pink since we were just eating dinner at home.  So, I just wore the following and I must say, I really do like all the colors and I always receive compliments on the bow belt, which is from Simply Audrey here.

I didn't wear the shoes inside the house, but I wore them out shopping.  I have to say they're my favorite thrifted pair to date.

vintage 70s pink mohair sweater- thrifted
white t-shirt underneath- h&m
vintage 80s blue pencil skirt- thrifted
steve madden strappy platform sandals- thrifted!

And here are the gorgeous flowers and meal from my husband.  I must say, I felt very loved!

How was everyone else's valentine's?  Did you go out or stay in?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!  For Valentine's Day, my son and I made pink heart rice krispies treats.  They actually came out more coral pink, but we had fun doing it!  You can find the recipe on the back of the box or on ricekrispies.com

our coral pink rice krispies treats.

first, you had 3 tbsp of butter or margarine.

melt the better in a large saucepan, and add a package of mini marshmallows.

it should look something like this, but probably not as deep of a pink. haha.

add 6 cups of rice krispies to the sauce in the saucepan and mix well.  then, spread the mixture evenly on a 15" long cookie sheet.

Happy Valentine's Day!

It would have been prettier if I could find clear plastic bags, but the store was out. Also, here's the winner of the giveaway!

Indigofera Beauty Expert, please contact me at revolvingstyles@gmail.com to claim your prize!  Thanks everyone for entering and I will have another giveaway in a couple of weeks.  Hope everyone felt loved today (and everyday). <3
